Adoption Stories

We receive wonderful stories of TCHS alumni on a regular basis, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who take the time to share them with us. We are invested in each and every pet we care for, and we want the best for them!  This is why we do what we do. Why you give, volunteer, adopt, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Share Your TCHS Adoption Story:  email your story with photos to pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org or message us on our Facebook page for future publication. We love to hear how our alumni are doing!

Nutmeg and Pepper

“Tiny animals need some attention, too!” That’s from the proud owner of this small adoption story subjects, and we absolutely agree!

The guinea pigs we knew as Artemis and Jax, two sisters and best friends, arrived at Tri-County Humane Society in April 2024. They were shy and skittish, even by guinea pig standards, and spent exactly a month in the shelter before they were adopted.

Now named Nutmeg and Pepper, the two piggies have transformed into social butterflies.

“We brought them home and they acclimated to their new large cage fairly fast, even if they were still really shy. After becoming more comfortable with us, the girls have opened up tremendously since coming to live in our quiet home. They have lots of space to zoom around and popcorn (a term used for guinea pigs when they happily kick and bounce around) when it's feeding time. They are very vocal and love letting us know they are happy.”

The girls’ favorite activities include snuggling on their noodle mats, climbing into their people’s hands for treats, and burrowing in their boxes of hay.

“We are so happy that we've been able to make such progress with them and to see them happy in their new forever home. We love them tremendously. We are taking things at their own pace and still building trust with them, but making strides with little face pets, hand feeding, and a quiet home where they are clean and happy. Thanks to Tri-County Humane Society, our furry family has gained two beautiful ladies.”
