Adoption Stories

We receive wonderful stories of TCHS alumni on a regular basis, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who take the time to share them with us. We are invested in each and every pet we care for, and we want the best for them!  This is why we do what we do. Why you give, volunteer, adopt, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Share Your TCHS Adoption Story:  email your story with photos to pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org or message us on our Facebook page for future publication. We love to hear how our alumni are doing!

Bernice 71

The subject of this adoption story wasn’t marketed as a working cat – but you better believe she’s getting the job done on her rural property! Bernice 71 was part of the 94-cat intake from Crosby that Tri-County Humane Society took in last April. Our medical team removed one of Bernice’s eyes, but she was otherwise happy and healthy. Her first adoption didn’t work out because she was such an accomplished and committed escape artist. She found the right fit for her in September, with an indoor-outdoor lifestyle.

“Bernice is loving being outside all day and in the warm barn at night. We love having her at our house!” Her new human reports that Bernice is keeping busy, too. “Bernice likes checking in on the chickens when we feed them in the morning. She likes laying in the sun and has made friends with the neighbors’ cats.” Bernice also makes time for the important things in life: “She likes getting her chin scratched whenever anyone walks by!”

If you're reading this wishing you would have stumbled upon Bernice first, don't fret! We get a steady supply of "working cats" at the shelter. Ask us about our current working cats looking for a job, or be put on our waiting list for the future!
