Adoption Stories

We receive wonderful stories of TCHS alumni on a regular basis, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who take the time to share them with us. We are invested in each and every pet we care for, and we want the best for them!  This is why we do what we do. Why you give, volunteer, adopt, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Share Your TCHS Adoption Story:  email your story with photos to pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org or message us on our Facebook page for future publication. We love to hear how our alumni are doing!

River

We love hearing from adopters on their pets’ Adopt-a-versaries! This past May marked three years in a happy home for the cat named River – and it’s a full house now, too!

River, who is now 4 years old, came to the shelter in May of 2021. One of her future humans saw her post on Facebook.

“She had such a sweet face, and from what was written in the post she sounded like she would be a wonderful addition to our lives. After a few days of contemplation and discussion with my partner, we saw that River was still available for adoption and we made the decision to schedule an appointment to meet her. When we met her, she was very overwhelmed, but she was interested in playing with us and getting pets; we decided to adopt her that day. It took her a while to settle in with us, but once she did, she showed us what a loving and sweet cat she is."

What's better than a happy ending for a pet?  More happy endings!!

"Since we adopted her, we adopted another cat from a different humane society, Pepper, who River joyfully welcomed, and the two of them quickly bonded and have become best friends. River loves my mom’s dog, Rori, and we recently rescued our own puppy, Juniper, and River has been calmly and cautiously warming up to her."

"River adds joy to each day and has been such a blessing in our lives; we are so grateful that God crossed our paths with River’s.”

We are so glad that River’s path is running smoothly – thanks to her family for giving her and the other animals a mighty-good home!
