Adoption Stories

We receive wonderful stories of TCHS alumni on a regular basis, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who take the time to share them with us. We are invested in each and every pet we care for, and we want the best for them!  This is why we do what we do. Why you give, volunteer, adopt, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Share Your TCHS Adoption Story:  email your story with photos to pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org or message us on our Facebook page for future publication. We love to hear how our alumni are doing!

Cougar

There’s a good chance you’ve already heard this adoption story – it was the topic of a KARE 11 news report on Saturday, April 13 and widely shared in media reports.  But a story this good is worth repeating!

Tri-County Humane Society took in 90-plus cats last week that Minnesota Federated Humane Societies humane agents and Crosby police removed from a Crosby home. Of that group, two were reunited with their humans, and one of those cats was from the St. Cloud area! A Sartell couple recognized their missing cat, Cougar, among the Crosby cats we listed on our website. They reclaimed him Saturday, at the same time KARE 11 journalists were at our shelter covering the Crosby cats story.  Of course, Kare 11 quickly pivoted to this happy story for one of the Crosby cats!

KARE 11 report: Missing cat reunited with owner after 7 years

What was it like to see Cougar again? "We were pretty overwhelmed," one of his people, Lisa, told us. "You get so attached to them."

Cougar, who is 10 years old, had been a part of their family since he was a kitten.  He went missing from their home on October 13, 2023 - 6 months to the day of being reunited with his people last Saturday.  How he got to the Crosby area remains a mystery, but one thing is clear: They are very happy to have him home.

His family knows Cougar's adjustment might take a bit. "He's pretty skittish," Lisa said. "He's talking to us a lot. ... We are not getting out of his sight."

And as far as the past week's events, including statewide media coverage? "It's been a wild ride," Lisa said. For TCHS, too!
