Adoption Stories

We receive wonderful stories of TCHS alumni on a regular basis, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who take the time to share them with us. We are invested in each and every pet we care for, and we want the best for them!  This is why we do what we do. Why you give, volunteer, adopt, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Share Your TCHS Adoption Story:  email your story with photos to pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org or message us on our Facebook page for future publication. We love to hear how our alumni are doing!

Poppy the Gecko

Feel Good Fur-day Adoption Stories (sign up here!) don’t always involve “fur” – after all, the Tri-County Humane Society places reptiles in homes, too! And geckos aren’t just good at being insurance pitchmen – they can be great companions. This Feel Good (No) Fur-day is about a 1-year-old female gecko who was called “Obstruct” when she was with us in mid-March; she found her new home in less than a week! She is now named Poppy.

“I have never cared for a reptile before, but it was love at first sight, and I was ready for the challenge. The staff members at TCHS were very helpful giving me tips and general knowledge to set me up for success. Poppy is still working on hand-training with me, but she loves to roam around and explore. She enjoys basking in the heat and munching on yummy crickets. This spunky girl always has a smile on her face!”

“Reptiles and amphibians are sometimes thought of as primitive, dull and dimwitted. In fact, of course, they can be lethally fast, spectacularly beautiful, surprisingly affectionate and very sophisticated.”  David Attenborough
