Adoption Stories

We receive wonderful stories of TCHS alumni on a regular basis, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who take the time to share them with us. We are invested in each and every pet we care for, and we want the best for them!  This is why we do what we do. Why you give, volunteer, adopt, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Share Your TCHS Adoption Story:  email your story with photos to pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org or message us on our Facebook page for future publication. We love to hear how our alumni are doing!

Ficho and Wishbone

Rats tend to be social creatures, so these adoption subjects are in rodent heaven! The Fancy Rats known as Ficho and Wishbone (both males) came to Tri-County Humane Society in December as part of an unexpected litter (Did we mention rats are social creatures? Please keep them in same-sex groups, or our small animal room could fill up faster than you can say "cheese"!). The rats got adopted in January, and they were renamed Bilbo and Frodo. And the best part – they have two new little rat brothers now!

“They have remained the absolute sweetest boys since day one - never even showed any aggression to the new babies,” who are named Merry and Pippin. Bilbo is the more outgoing and active guy, while Frodo is a cuddle bug. “They love treat puzzles, snuggling with us, and hopping around on the couch and recliners, free-roaming in the bathroom or closed-off hallway, and being tickled! Their favorite treats are shredded unsweetened coconut, pasta, and dried papaya. They also love any kind of baby food, LOL.” Even with strangers, these rats are so friendly and trusting, their human writes. “We love them so, so much!”
