Adoption Stories

We receive wonderful stories of TCHS alumni on a regular basis, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who take the time to share them with us. We are invested in each and every pet we care for, and we want the best for them!  This is why we do what we do. Why you give, volunteer, adopt, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Share Your TCHS Adoption Story:  email your story with photos to pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org or message us on our Facebook page for future publication. We love to hear how our alumni are doing!

Toby, now Marv

The subject of this adoption story is lucky to have a patient human who consistently supports him as he gets more confident. The 2-year-old Yorkie mix we called “Toby” came to TCHS as a stray in July 2024 with another small dog we called “Dwight.” He was adopted the next month, and his adjustment has been a slow but steady journey. His new name is Marv.

“After adopting him in August, he's come around quite a bit with his affection and just overall feeling at ease. He shows separation anxiety when I leave the house and that’s something I'm working on with his vet. ... He's a very friendly dog and enjoys meeting people. He can be cheeky and mischievous so it's clear he's a true terrier indeed.  He loves coming to work with me as he's amassed a large fanbase.” Marv recently made a big step – he’s started playing with toys! “Initially when he came to me, he didn’t seem to understand what the purpose of a toy was, so I’m excited about this change.”

Overall, Marv has been a charming sweetheart, his human reports. “I'm so happy Marv and I met and that he came home with me.  He's been a joy to have around.”
