Adoption Stories

We receive wonderful stories of TCHS alumni on a regular basis, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who take the time to share them with us. We are invested in each and every pet we care for, and we want the best for them!  This is why we do what we do. Why you give, volunteer, adopt, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Share Your TCHS Adoption Story:  email your story with photos to pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org or message us on our Facebook page for future publication. We love to hear how our alumni are doing!

Cricket, now Nate

Tri-County Humane Society celebrated its 50th birthday on Dec. 11, 2024. That milestone inspired a few people to share their TCHS adoption stories with us. Here’s one of those stories, about a family who “just went to look” at TCHS and left with a new family member.

In 2011, Cricket was just a kitten.  He was raised by his mom in foster care and then brought to the shelter to find a home. (TCHS was in a whole different shelter then!) Flash-forward to today, and he’s Nathaniel Ray Louis AKA Nate, a “larger-than-life lover cat who sleeps, eats, poops, and loves – repeat daily.” His human made sure to put the emphasis on “love.”

Nate gets along well with his Corgi sister named Freya, who is happy to herd Nate and then wash his ears. “Nate loves to be snuggled up next to our other cat, Scout, but his very favorite spot is on my husband’s lap. How is it that the person in the house that is least likely to adore the cat is the one that is most adored by the cat?” After years of being together, those two are besties.

“Nate is such a guy.”

Luckily for him, he found a great family. Want to visit us to "just look" at the animals? Please do!!
