Adoption Stories

We receive wonderful stories of TCHS alumni on a regular basis, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who take the time to share them with us. We are invested in each and every pet we care for, and we want the best for them!  This is why we do what we do. Why you give, volunteer, adopt, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Share Your TCHS Adoption Story:  email your story with photos to pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org or message us on our Facebook page for future publication. We love to hear how our alumni are doing!

Smokey, now Squid

We are positive many of you can relate to the response we got from the human of this adoptee when we asked her for more kitten photos.

“My camera roll is pretty much exclusively pictures and videos of her now, so there’s plenty to choose from.”

We get it!

That kitten – who is growing up very quickly – arrived at Tri-County Humane Society in May; we named her “Smokey.” She was adopted only three days later, and by the sounds of it, she is the perfect addition to her home.

“Her new name is Squid, and it fits her perfectly; she’s always sneaking into dark corners to pop out and surprise you when you walk by. She’s starting to get extra playful and has been practicing pouncing (mostly on my toes under a blanket) but still loves to snuggle into the crook of your neck.”

The adopter said TCHS staff members’ tips for cat-to-cat introductions worked well.

“I was a little nervous bringing her home that PJ would be territorial, but that only lasted a few days until he was sitting at her door begging me to let her out to play. Haven’t gotten to snuggling together yet, but they loooove wrestling. PJ may be 10 times her size, but he’s been very gentle and lets her win (sometimes).

I can’t express how loved this little lady is. Everyone who’s met her is immediately obsessed, and I feel so lucky that I get to be her companion for the rest of her life.”
