Adoption Stories

We receive wonderful stories of TCHS alumni on a regular basis, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who take the time to share them with us. We are invested in each and every pet we care for, and we want the best for them!  This is why we do what we do. Why you give, volunteer, adopt, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Share Your TCHS Adoption Story:  email your story with photos to pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org or message us on our Facebook page for future publication. We love to hear how our alumni are doing!

Bonkey

Animal adopters know that pets rescue us as much as we do them. Such is the case with this adoption story.

Bonkey, a 5-year-old mixed breed pup who came to Tri-County Humane Society in November 2023 as a stray, got his name because he had a habit of occasionally running into things. He was adopted in December 2023.

“About 2 weeks before we adopted Bonkey, my dog of 11 years, Miss Kay, suddenly passed away.  My other dog, Ellie, was just as sad as I was, always wandering around and searching for her friend. I went in just to look, and I noticed Bonkey was super calm in the shelter, never once barking. I came back the next day and took him home.”

The adopter added that Bonkey and Ellie became nearly instant best friends! Bonkey also adjusted well to the home – though he did have a few quirks.

“At first, Bonkey was scared of the hardwood floors, so he would jump over the couch to go outside and jump back over to come back inside.”

Bonkey spends his days hanging with Ellie, getting snuggles from the kids in the home, and sleeping in bed with his humans. He also loves being outside.

“We have a seasonal campsite, and we are so excited to bring him along camping this summer!”
