Tri-County Humane Society, from time to time, adopts out “working cats” or “barn cats,” some of whom are more social than others. This adoption story is about a cat named Archie who’s still working, but he definitely has grown to appreciate his humans – even if he once took a brief vacation from them.
Archie, who is now 7 years old, was adopted from TCHS as an outdoor farm kitty in 2018.
“We had switched over from dairy cows to beef cows that year, and all except one of our farm cats disappeared at that time. So we decided to adopt Archie to give our other cat some company, and to help catch mice - his profile said that he was a good mouser even at the shelter! Once we got him to our farm, we put him in a place we thought he wouldn't be able to escape to get him used to everything. However, the next morning he was gone, and we were so sad and disappointed. Well, an entire three weeks later, he showed up in one of our sheds, but was still too skittish to catch. The next day he decided he had had enough of life on his own, and he allowed us to bring him into our shop to feed him. It was truly a miracle for us! He has been the sweetest, laid-back cat ever since! He loves coming in the house for visits, extra pets and snacks!”
