I hear all the time from people who appreciate the adoption stories. I love and appreciate the fact that we have so many happy-ending stories to pick from! Take this story, which is about a 4-year-old German Shepherd mix named Abby who was adopted in May. Give it a read and try not to smile. (I dare you!)
“I’d like to start this e-mail by saying THANK YOU! The adoption of Abby would not have been possible if it weren’t for your Veterans Fund program**, and I cannot imagine my life without this wonderful girl in it now. Abby has been an amazing addition to our family and we have loved watching her personality blossom in the weeks she’s been with us. She is so well behaved and plays extremely well with all of the dogs in our neighborhood, my extended family, and at the dog park. She even likes my cat, although she will gently ‘boop’ her off the couch with her nose if Abby feels the cat is getting more attention than her when we’re all sitting together. Abby LOVES children of all sizes, and while Abby will NOT cuddle up with adults, she seems to have no problem snuggling up with the kiddos. She listens to commands to the point where a lead/leash isn’t needed when we’re somewhere with lots of room for her to run, and boy does she LOVE going for runs. She likes running next to the side-by-side when riding down the trails in my parents’ woods, going for car rides, playing catch, and swimming in the lake. She is a bit of a counter surfer, but is surprisingly picky, lol! It took a bit of time for my girls to adjust to having to keep anything Abby might find yummy put away. In that time we have found she really enjoys chicken, breakfast pizza from Kwik Trip, and macaroni and cheese – all involved are learning how to be diligent so Abby won’t suffer from an unnecessary stomach ache! We are planning to get a DNA test done just to see if Abby is really half giraffe, but her sassy nature and level of intelligence absolutely points to her German Shepherd/Husky background. She fits in well with the other sassy gals that reside in our home.”
