Calvin

Here is a story about a dog who needed some time with one of our foster homes to truly chill out and become the very good boy we knew he could be.

Calvin is a 1-year-old Poodle and Retriever mix who came to the shelter in late November. Calvin was still very much a puppy at heart – and he acted like one, being too full of energy (and naughtiness) to be a well-behaved TCHS resident. However, one of our volunteer dog walkers was charmed by Calvin’s spirited shenanigans and asked if he could become Calvin’s foster and mentor. He wanted to provide the pup with more extensive training and socialization.

Staff felt that the best option to find Calvin a home was our Adoption Ambassadors program, in which TCHS pets stay in a foster home until their adoption is finalized.  Calvin’s foster brought him in regularly so we could see his developing obedience skills. Also, community members came together to help, with one donor agreeing to pay half of Calvin’s adoption fee and another giving money so Calvin could get formal obedience training after his adoption.

In February, nearly four months after his arrival, Calvin found his human – and both he and his foster parent were over the moon about the match! Calvin is still thriving in his new home.

In February, nearly four months after his arrival, Calvin found his human – and both he and his foster parent were over the moon about the match! Calvin is still thriving in his new home. His adopter says:

“He’s really enjoying a big yard to run around in and chase tennis balls! And he loves all the rope toys that were donated to him so much he’s completely chewed up a couple of them - haha! And he loves to cuddle and lay up on your pillows at night.”

Calvin even has a (much smaller) doggie friend whom he knows how to play with – gently.

Tri-County Humane Society could not give so many animals a second chance without help from volunteers, donors and foster parents. Thank you to everyone who played a role in Calvin’s transformation and new start!
