Yao was transferred to us from another humane society in March because they were out of space for cats. She was treated for hookworm, ear mites, and was spayed. She’d come from a hoarding situation and wasn’t very well socialized with people. Although Yao was a bit skittish, she showed us that with a little TLC and patience she would make a good house pet so we decided to place her for adoption instead of our initial thoughts of putting her in the barn cat placement program. Yao could be a bit persnickety and would occasionally nip at people if she was nervous or overstimulated. On April 11th, Yao found her purr-fect match!
Here is an update from her new family a month after adoption:
“We’ve had her a month!! She’s made great leaps and bounds the last 30 days! We haven’t got her quite calm enough to get into the vet yet, but she’s VERY close! Her stools firmed right up after a couple days, and she’s been putting on weight nicely! She’s definitely grown a bit, too! The biting is down to nips, and they’re VERY limited, as long as only Mommy feeds her in the morning lol! She loves to curl up in laps and rub her face all over you! My sister even came over a couple weeks ago, and she did excellent with her with not a single nip! She has grown fond of wand toys, and will play with a shoe string like it’s the latest iPhone! We’ve started the other cats sniffing through the gate, and they’re all pretty open to the idea. We’re going to start bringing one into Yao’s room probably this weekend or next. She has come so far and has built such great attachments! I’m so happy for shelters like yours, because nervous cats that are prone to biting are given a chance. She’s really just a gem and I can’t wait to get her integrated into the group!
She’s still apprehensive about things in your hands, like phones, but here are a couple pictures we got tonight when we went in to work with her. She didn’t even have her nervous tail out for a second!”
