Report a Found Pet

If you find a pet, please call us at (320) 252-0896 to see if their owner has called us and filed a lost pet report. We can also scan any stray pet to see if it has a microchip, or an animal control officer/vet clinic can scan for a chip.

If we do not have a match, we will take your contact information and schedule an appointment to take the pet in if it was found in an area that contracts with us. If it was found in an area that does not contract with us, we will direct you to the appropriate stray holding facility.

If possible, do not remove the pet from the site where you have found it until the appropriate animal control officer, sheriff or police department has been contacted.  Some jurisdictions have strict policies on only picking up stray animals from the location they were found.

  • Make a found report with Tri-County Humane Society by calling (320) 252-0896.
  • Have the pet scanned for a microchip at TCHS or at a vet clinic.
  • Poster fliers and yard sale signs around the neighborhood where you found the animal; include pictures and your contact information.
  • Make a lost report with area vet clinics; make sure they have a picture on file.
  • Contact your city's animal control department or governmental equivalent (City Hall, Sheriff's Office).
  • Contact any animal shelter within a 60-mile radius.
  • If you use social media, post the pet and the contact information to local Facebook lost pet groups; also consider posting to Craigslist, Nextdoor, etc.
