Report a Lost Pet
If you have lost your pet, time is of the essence. Minnesota state law requires animal shelters and stray holding facilities to hold and advertise stray pets for five business days. After five days, these pets could be placed for adoption. If you have any questions or need guidance, please call Tri-County Humane Society at (320) 252-0896, or email pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org.
Lost Pet Checklist
- Make a lost report with TCHS.
- Poster fliers and yard sale signs around the neighborhood and ask neighbors to stay alert and NOT to chase your pet if they see them. Include your contact information.
- Sometimes animals hunker down when lost; check under porches, decks, etc.; check unexpected areas.
- Ask your mail carrier to keep an eye out.
- Contact your city's animal control department or governmental equivalent (City Hall, Sheriff's Office).
- Contact any animal shelter within a 60-mile radius.
- If you use social media, post on local Facebook lost pet groups; also consider posting to Craigslist, Nextdoor, etc.
