SPAM Robert AKA Bob

Most cats who arrive at Tri-County Humane Society are healthy and happy (thankfully), but every now and then there’s a guest who needs above-and-beyond care. Today’s Feel Good Fur-Day subject is one of those pets.
The stray 1-year-old cat we called SPAM (like the canned lunch meat) came as a stray to TCHS in February. Frostbite had damaged his ears, both of his rear legs, his tail, and all four of his paw pads. He spent time in foster care to heal before he was stable enough to have his tail partially amputated. SPAM eventually returned to the shelter for adoption and found his match in late March.
First order of business: SPAM chose a different name. “He never really answered to SPAM with me, and a friend of mine said oh, he is a bobcat! So I randomly called him Bob and he responded, and he has been Bob ever since!” (His foster home did name him SPAM, so in tribute to their hard work caring for him, his human says her cat’s full name is SPAM Robert.)
Bob was in a cone for weeks, but he was a trooper and even tolerated his new human applying medicine three times a day. He’s been cone-less for a month, and he’s loving the freedom! “He loves taking flying leaps into his cat tree, climbing to very high places, sleeping on my printer, and having as many scratch pads as I can find places for.”
Bob is a big fan of realistic-looking bird toys and an interactive mouse that keeps his attention for hours. “He also likes to try and sneak any potato, sweet potato or lettuce I may be preparing!”
He’s also quick to protect his family. “If someone happens to knock on the door, he will lay across the bottom and cat growl. He is my little guardian.”
Bob – or SPAM Robert, if you’re being formal – is the “sweetest, quirkiest, funniest, and most loving boy I could have wished for. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in his care.” It was our privilege!
