Sophie, now Sammie
Animals are adopted so quickly from Tri-County Humane Society that the ones who stick around longer tend to stick out! Our average length of stay for any animal is 10 days, and today’s Feel Good Fur-Day subject was with us for almost two months. Luckily for her, she eventually found her perfect home.
The 1-year-old boxer/poodle mix then called Sophie arrived at TCHS in early May. The high-energy pup waited and waited – and waited – for a match. We promoted Sophie on social media often, and Scooter’s Coffee sponsored a portion of her adoption fee and put her picture up in its locations. A TCHS volunteer/foster took Sophie on frequent field trips to bust her boredom, but Sophie was still getting frustrated. (Thank you to all our fosters and volunteers who give our pups a break from the shelter!)
Sophie was finally adopted in late June. Her new name is Sammie, because there was already a human Sophie in the extended family, and her days are filled with playtime and cuddle time.
“She has really adapted well to our family and home. We have another dog, a large goldendoodle named Tucker, and they get along and play together (quite enthusiastically). It sometimes gets a little crazy, given our living room doesn’t quite seem big enough for the both of them. But we really enjoy watching them together. Sammie keeps our older dog young!”
Sammie’s best friend, though, is the 11-year-old girl in the family. “She often takes her outside in our yard, and they play fetch together or hang out on our deck. Sammie and our other dog love to wake our daughter up every morning with plenty of kisses and ‘help’ put her to bed every night. The help often looks like cuddling up in her blankets on the bed.”
Sammie’s other favorite things are getting her twice-daily walks, meeting other dogs, taking rides in the car, and snacking on watermelon.
“When she isn’t playing, walking, or being outside, she sleeps next to me in a cozy chair while I work from home. She has proved to be a great (and quiet when I’m on video calls) co-worker!”
Sammie’s family says they feel very fortunate to have adopted her. We know Sammie feels the same – thanks for waiting, Sammie!
