Selah, now Meeka

At Tri-County Humane Society, if our canine guests have a breed listed, it’s often an educated guess. We love hearing from TCHS pet parents who are curious enough to get their dog’s DNA tested to see how right (or wrong) we were!
Today’s Feel Good Fur-Day is 100 percent good dog, but she ended up being 83 percent Siberian Husky, 12 percent Malamute, and 5 percent Labrador Retriever, according to a test. The dog we called “Selah” arrived as a stray at TCHS in March 2025 and was adopted shortly after. (We listed her simply as “mixed breed.”) Her new name is Meeka, and she is more than a year and a half old – but she still has plenty of puppy energy.
“Meeka is a great little companion to our family, and we don’t know what we’d do without her!” This pup, who is the “queen of snuggling,” does great with kids and has learned a few tricks. She also has a hidden talent: “Her ultimate favorite treat is a little string cheese – she can hear the string cheese wrapper a mile away.”
Must be the Labrador Retriever in her. If the World Wide Web can be trusted, they top the list of dog breeds with the best hearing!
