Remington (AKA Remi)
If you’ve adopted a dog from Tri-County Humane Society or another shelter, you may have heard of the “3-3-3 guideline.” That refers to the phases that a newly adopted pup goes through as they adjust to their new home. The first three days can be overwhelming, it can take three weeks before they start to feel comfortable, and it can take three months or so before the dog feels confident in their new home and knows the family’s routines. The adopters of today’s Feel Good Fur-Day subject said they found the 3-3-3 guidelines to be spot-on. In July, they took home Remington, an almost 2-year-old St. Bernard mix who came to TCHS as a transfer. Remington got a lookalike sibling.
“We were so surprised by how accurate the 3-3-3 guideline is. We quickly learned how patient we needed to be with him to let him get adjusted. He was definitely timid when we brought him home. For the first couple of days, we went from feeding him out of our hands to him now
being comfortable and eating whenever he pleases.”
Remington (AKA Remi) took a little bit to get used to resident St. Bernard Bernie, but now they are best friends and are inseparable.
“We’ll see them wait for each other when going outside, and they’re always running around the yard chasing each other. They love to lie next to each other and once in a while will lay their head or paw on one another.”
As time goes by, the family is seeing more of Remi’s true personality shine through. He’s become quite the cuddler, too, although he doesn’t seek permission. Even if they’re not in the mood, “Remi decides that he’ll just lie on you anyway.”
Remi’s family loves having him be a part of it. “We love seeing how much progress he’s made and love seeing how happy he is in his forever home. We learned that he has genuinely changed our lives just as much as we did for him.”
