Miri

The new year is a great time to try new things – may we humbly suggest adopting, volunteering, or donating?
Today’s Feel Good Fur-Day is about a “foster fail” who is bringing joy to people far beyond her household. Miri, who is now 5 months old, came to Tri-County Humane Society as a stray in rough shape. She had an upper respiratory infection and bilateral corneal ulcers, so she went to foster care to heal, and there she stayed.
“For the last few years, we have only fostered kittens temporarily, due to my husband’s allergies. We fall in love with many of the fosters, but when Miri came to us in September it was immediately clear that she was a special fit for us, even though we hadn’t planned on considering adoption.”
Putting Miri on an allergen-reducing food helped make it possible for the family to adopt her. And Miri’s new family knew that she was too special to keep to themselves.
“Right away, I started bringing Miri to assisted living in Avon, as we do with most of the kittens for additional socialization with the residents (including my mother). She is exceptionally easy in the carrier and in new environments, so I even brought her to visit my dad in the state of Wyoming. Miri goes to assisted living 3-5 times per week, and the other residents anticipate her arrival with delight.”
Miri’s family says she’s not afraid of anything, so new people, new environments, car rides, changes in routine and anything else are a breeze. “She is a highly engaged member of our family – she greets us at the door if we have been out, she sleeps with us and the dog in our bed at night, she joins us at meals and patiently awaits her turn for a lick of a spoon or fork, she loves to watch TV, and she just generally participates in all aspects of our home life. She has fallen in love with our dog, often reaching out for him and trying to play with him.”
And Miri’s family has goals for her in the new year – including harness training in appropriate weather!
“She would like to go everywhere and be involved in all things. She is happy, healthy and ready to be a big sister to future fosters!”
Happy New Year, Miri and family!
