Lulu and Applehead
Lulu (formerly Edith) & Applehead (Chihuahua formerly known as Quincy) joined the family (2 cats) around the end of June 2018. Both dogs are slightly older, not much was known about them, and they seemed equally uncertain about this latest transition in their lives.
Neither would eat anything for the entire first week, which was nervewracking. In general, they seemed unnaturally “polite:” No barking, no begging, no attention seeking. They slept alone in the living room. Lulu paced and panted constantly.
Fortunately, that changed over the passing weeks. Their loving, vital natures are now on full display. Although Lulu has creaky joints, she runs with abandon in the yard when we go out after work, and throws her chew bones around for fun. Applehead is very smart and affectionate, and runs crazy in the house and yard when the spirit moves him. Both like to be close to me and to each other, and combining with the cats had been smoother than I could have hoped for. Apple now burrows under the covers at bedtime, and Lulu has her own bed beside.
Like most animals, the simple things make them happy, and when they’re happy, so am I. They make the house complete.
