Honey, now Hiroyuki

Adopting a pet doesn’t just bolster the human family members’ spirits. Today’s Feel Good Fur-Day shows how important the animal-animal bond can be, too.
The stray cat we then called Honey came to Tri-County Humane Society in February 2024. He’s now 2 years old and named Hiroyuki, Japanese for “happiness.” And he’s bringing a lot of that to his new family.
“Hiroyuki has settled in wonderfully and has even grown closer to his big sister, Rey. We adopted him after losing our 21-year-old tortie named Luna to old age, and our other tortie girl Rey was really struggling with the loss. He has helped her and us so much, bringing her out of depression and back into a playful, happy kitty – we are beyond grateful to him.”
Hiroyuki has a pretty great life. “He loves to lounge around in his camping chair, and his favorite thing, no matter the season, is an open door or window to the fresh air and going-ons of the outside from the safety of his perches. He’s very vocal and loves to chirp and coo, trying endlessly to woo his sister to play, and she is close to possibly allowing him a cuddle, but he has definitely won the hearts of everyone he meets and is steadily breaking down his sister’s walls.”
In short, Hiroyuki has been the perfect fit, just like his new name. “He brings all of that and so much more light and love into our lives.”
