Francine

Francine came to TCHS in November 2025 via Leech Lake Legacy, one of our frequent transport partners. She arrived with both Lyme Disease, spread by ticks, and heartworm, a mosquito-spread infection that can be deadly if not addressed. Our medical team went to work treating her, and she was eventually cleared for adoption with the understanding that she’d need follow-up care from her new family veterinarian.
One of her new humans got a “test-drive” with Francine because she’s a TCHS volunteer dog walker who took her on regular outings. “I quickly realized she was special and felt a strong pull to her. We had lost our two dogs earlier in the year, and I knew she was the dog we had been waiting to add to our family.”
Francine was cautious in her new home initially, but she was always happy to be near her new people. Her new home was understanding, considering all she had gone through. “It was a lot for a dog of just one year!” as one of her new humans put it.
Just for fun, her new family got a DNA test on Francine, which revealed she is an American Pit Bull Terrier/German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix.
“Over the months with her, she has become comfortable in her new home and a key member of our family. She loves to go for walks and to be next to (or on the lap of) her favorite people. She is really just the best dog!” And we’re thankful to her family for giving her the best life!
