Adoption Stories

We receive wonderful stories of TCHS alumni on a regular basis, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who take the time to share them with us. We are invested in each and every pet we care for, and we want the best for them!  This is why we do what we do. Why you give, volunteer, adopt, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Share Your TCHS Adoption Story:  email your story with photos to pets@tricountyhumanesociety.org or message us on our Facebook page for future publication. We love to hear how our alumni are doing!

Sploot

It's a common belief that you don’t pick a shelter animal; they pick you! And sometimes, we hear from customers that they believe their past animals had a hand (paw?) in the newest addition to their home.

“I adopted a 6-week-old Labrador mix from Tri-County Humane Society on 12/31/2010. Cash was a perfect companion to my Miniature Poodle, Poo. Both of them had a long, healthy, happy life. On April 2, 2025, Cash let me know it was time, and he passed peacefully. Three weeks later, I happened upon the Tri-County Humane Society website, and as soon as I saw Sploot, I knew I needed him. I rushed over after work and couldn’t believe how much he reminded me of Poo.”

Sploot is a senior mixed-breed small dog who arrived at TCHS with a matted coat but a joyous attitude. Volunteer dog groomer Raylene with Wags on Wheels gave Sploot a makeover, and he caught the eye of his new family.

“I immediately adopted him and brought him home. He has been such a great dog - he’s great with my other dogs, my cat, and children. He felt like he belonged here as soon as he entered. I feel as if Cash and Poo sent him to me or me to him.”

We know Sploot is happy to be where he's at, too!
