Buddy

We all need a buddy – and helping people find a buddy is what Tri-County Humane Society is all about! This adoption story is about a “Buddy” who is a beloved family member. The rat terrier mix arrived at TCHS in May 2018, and didn’t wait long at all for his new home.

“How time flies when things go well. It’s almost three years since we adopted Buddy, and it was one of the best things we’ve ever done! Buddy is a solid member of our family as well as a friend to many, many friends, relatives, and community people. This little guy is totally bonded to Mary Kay and goes into a very quiet, funky mood whenever she leaves without him (which is seldom). When she returns he is overjoyed, like she was gone for ages. … Buddy is about as intelligent as it is possible for a dog to be and I would place him above many people. He has an ‘understood’ vocabulary that is equal to a young child and is capable of making his wants known to us. Such as, he has never messed in the house. He has a doggy door that is accessible to him unless the door to the porch is closed because of heat, etc. A night ago that was the case so he went to Mary (who was sleeping) and pawed her arm to let her know he wanted to go out. He has a definite order and time in which things should be done and lets us know if we aren’t on the schedule. … We fully understand, and enjoy, the fact that this little guy has wormed his way into our hearts and that he is more than ‘just a dog’ to us. I personally believe that dogs are God’s gift to mankind to give us all the love and loyalty they are capable of. If they could speak I wonder what they would say of us. But they cannot, so it is up to us with our supposed superior mentality to understand their wants and need.”

We’re pretty sure that if Buddy could talk, he’d say he absolutely loves his family and would thank us for the role we played in getting them together! Which leads us to thank everyone who adopts, knowing that pets are never “just a dog” or “just a cat.”
